We (social) want to do some fundraising so we can lower prices for Winter Formal and get an AMAZING DJ (hopefully along the lines of 94.9 or 99.7 dj), but we need IDEAS! If you guys could help us out here, we'd be eternally grateful and if it works out really well (or just well) you get bragging rights :)

I'm not sure how well this might work, but one idea you might want to look into is conducting a raffle, instead of an auction, where everyone can buy as many tickets as they like to win prizes. Not only will people buy multiple tickets if they really want the prize, but you'll also be able to earn money because the drawing will be random. This can also work in conjunction with another fundraiser or at Night on the Quad.
ReplyDeleteIf you end up doing a raffle, try considering raffling things that are of little or no cost to us. For example, raffling a Vikepound shirt would cost us money as well, and it wouldn't go for a high price. However, raffling a season pass to Lynbrook Home Games for sports is free to us (talk to Mr. Erwin once though). Also, you can ask the leadership class for donations of things that they don't want, so we can raffle those items.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, some other minimal effort events include:
A bake sale. I know there used to be regular bake sales at Miller, but we never have them at LHS. I'm not sure how well that would go.
You could also try a Cake Walk or something similar. You could do this at lunch and charge $1 for a round. The Cake wouldn't cost us much.
Since you guys are social, you guys could put on something else that is social ;) To keep cost at zero or at least minimal, and to maximize profit, you could show a movie in the auditorium some Friday night, and charge $1 for admission (or less). If you think that is too much, you could do like a marathon (like the 3 Dark Night Movies in one night) or you could do a series (star wars/harry potter/lord of the rings) where you show one of the movies each friday night for a few weeks. You could provide (cheap) popcorn.
You could have a make-shift dunk tank where people pay a dollar to throw a ball at a target. If they make it on target, then we dunk Mr. Erwin in a bucket of water (you might want to get Mr. Erwin's approval for this)
I can come up with some more ideas if this isn't enough. All of these are minimal cost and will (hopefully) bring in a good amount of profit. Good thing is that you could do multiple of these.

Place some kind of "bids" on teachers. So students donate money to vote for their favorite teacher and the top 5 teachers that win can do something silly or wear something. This is like Ms. Badger was saying the Kiss a Pig thing. Everyone wants to see a teacher do something super silly. Or maybe the teachers that win have a part in the Rally where they have to play a game or do a dance or something creative or along those lines.
ReplyDeleteAdding on to what Sasha said, I guess you could extend that to Mr. Erwin/other administrators, or maybe even our very own ASB President(if Divya was willing to do it, of course)! In general, I'm sure lots of students would donate to see people say or do embarrassing or silly things.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, does anyone know if the new state law (the one a lot of people were discussing all over facebook) passed would affect our ability to have fundraisers/ask for donations? Or does this law only apply to clubs? I don't exactly know what it is.
The sports tickets for professional sports that are in season are a great way to raise money!
ReplyDeleteGiants, Athletics, 49ers, Raiders, Sharks, and Warriors are all great tickets to buy to give anyone and everyone a taste of the sport they want.
This list disregards the smaller teams such as the San Jose Giants, San Jose Earthquakes, San Francisco Bulls (popular minor league hockey), and various Bay Area colleges that many families love to go out and watch whether its football or basketball or baseball.
When the time comes let me know and I can help you guys find cheap tickets to maximize profits as fundraisers!!!
If you guys are interested in food trucks, here is the link to one food truck that was hired for a private party I attended. I'm not sure about the prices but they offer a variety of Mexican, Korean and Indian food and I believe vegetarian is an option as well

Not sure if you'll still be reading these, but through CADA last year I actually met a DJ'ing company called SOS Entertainment and they host a free dance for the school that gets the most likes on their facebook page.
ReplyDeleteWe(miller) actually got around to winning that prize and I have to say they were phenomenal as DJ's, there was never a low point during the dance.

They offer some really cool add-ons, things worthy of winter formal(huge trussings and like)
Definitely look out and see if they're doing the competition again this year, because it's a great opportunity.
